Effective Date: Sept. 20, 2024
This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your information when using our website, Discord server, and emulation services (Project64-MPN and Dolphin-MPN). By participating in our community and services, you agree to the terms set forth in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
WordPress Website:
- Website Traffic: We collect non-personally identifiable information such as your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and access times to monitor website performance and enhance user experience.
- Cookies: Our site uses cookies to store information about visitor preferences and record user-specific information on which pages the site accesses or visits.
Discord Information:
- User Data: When you join our Discord server, Discord collects and provides us with information such as your Discord username, user ID, and avatar.
- Activity and Interactions: Any messages, content, or interactions you share within the server are logged by Discord in accordance with their privacy policy. We do not store or use this information outside of the Discord platform.
Project64-MPN:
Project64-MPN does not collect detailed game analytics. Instead, Netplay data is tracked by the AQZ Netplay Project, which powers Project64-MPN’s multiplayer functionality. Here’s how it works:
- IP Addresses: When using hosted servers (not peer-to-peer), your IP address is sent to AQZ Netplay solely for the purpose of establishing a connection between players. No other data is shared with the creators of AQZ.
- P2P Connections: In peer-to-peer sessions, no data (including IP addresses) is sent to AQZ developers. Instead, all data is routed directly between the players involved in the match.
- Match and Connection Data: Data such as connection quality, ping, and session stability are recorded for troubleshooting and optimizing multiplayer sessions.
The data collected through AQZ ensures smooth gameplay and helps the developers maintain a stable multiplayer experience.
Dolphin-MPN:
Dolphin developers track netplay statistics and user performance to enhance the multiplayer experience and troubleshoot potential issues. Here’s a more detailed look at what data is collected and how it is used:
Anonymity and Analytics ID
- The first time you launch Dolphin, you are asked whether you consent to sharing anonymous data about your usage of Dolphin to help improve the software.
- This data is anonymized to the best extent possible. It is tied to a random analytics ID generated during the initial setup of Dolphin, not to any personally identifiable information.
- You can reset or regenerate this analytics ID at any time through Dolphin’s settings.
Collected Data
- Dolphin Version: The version of the Dolphin emulator you are using.
- Hardware Information: Details about your system’s CPU and GPU models, which help developers identify performance trends across different hardware configurations.
- Operating System Information: Type and version of the operating system on which Dolphin is running.
- Configuration Settings: Information about how you have configured Dolphin, such as graphics settings, controller setups, and other preferences.
- Game Currently Being Played: Data on which games are being emulated, helping to track game-specific performance and compatibility.
- Emulation Speed and Performance: Performance metrics such as frame rates, emulation speed, and latency during Netplay sessions.
Data Sharing
- High-level aggregated data may be shared publicly, such as general usage trends, popular configurations, or performance comparisons between Dolphin versions.
- Raw, unaggregated data is shared only within the Dolphin development team and the infrastructure maintenance team, ensuring it’s only accessed by those who need it to improve the emulator.
IP Address and Anti-Abuse Measures
- When submitting reports, Dolphin shares your IP address with its analytics service. While this IP is kept in logs for up to 7 days for anti-abuse purposes (e.g., preventing spam or misuse of the system), it is not linked to the analytics data or used to identify users personally.
Data Retention
- Normal usage data is retained for up to 365 days to track trends and performance across different periods.
- Performance samples (e.g., frame rate or latency reports) are kept for a shorter period, up to 90 days.
Opting Out
- If you initially opted into analytics reporting but later decide you no longer wish to participate, you can easily disable analytics reporting through Dolphin’s settings window.
For more detailed analytics reports and trends, you can visit Dolphin’s public dashboard.
